Olympian tragically killed at just 31

<p>A tragic incident has claimed the life of Alexandra Paul, a former Olympic figure skater, at the age of 31 following a collision involving seven vehicles.</p> <p>Alexandra Paul was in a car with her infant child when the accident took place in Melancthon Township, Ontario, Canada. The unfortunate incident occurred when a lorry collided with the car she was in, along with her baby, and five other vehicles that were stationary in a line, according to Canadian law enforcement.</p> <p>While Alexandra Paul was tragically pronounced deceased as a result of the collision, her baby was taken to a nearby children's hospital for treatment of injuries that were determined to be non-life-threatening.</p> <p>Skate Canada, through its Instagram platform, paid homage to Alexandra Paul's memory. The organisation conveyed their sorrow and announced the untimely passing of Alexandra Paul, a highly valued member of the skating community. 31-year-old joke from The Simpsons uncovered

<p dir="ltr">A hidden joke in The Simpsons has finally been revealed after 31 years.</p> <p dir="ltr">The popular animated TV series debuted way back in 1989 and professional video editor Ewzzy Rayburn has taken to social media to reveal a joke that has remained hidden ever since. </p> <p dir="ltr">In the season three episode titled “The Otto Show,” Homer reassures Marge that heavy metal concerts never had much of an impact on his hearing. “You wouldn’t believe all I had to do to survive”: Man rescued after 31 days in the jungle

<p>A Bolivian man has survived 31 days in the Amazon jungle.</p> <p>Jhonattan Acosta, 30, was hunting in northern Bolivia when he was separated from his four friends.</p> <p>He told United TV he drank rainwater collected in his shoes and ate worms and insects while hiding from jaguars and peccaries, a type of pig-like mammal.</p> <p>Acosta was finally found by a search party made up of locals and friends a month after he went missing.</p> <p>“I can’t believe people kept up the search for so long,” he said in tears.</p> <p>“I ate worms, I ate insects, you wouldn’t believe all I had to do to survive all this time.”</p> <p>He also ate wild fruits similar to papayas, known locally as gargateas.</p> <p>“I thank God profusely, because he has given me a new life,” he said.</p> <p>His family said they will still have to string all the details together regarding how Acosta got lost and how he managed to stay alive but will ask him gradually as he is still psychologically damaged after the experience.</p> <p>There has also been significant physical changes. Acosta lost 17kg, dislocated his ankle and was severely dehydrated when he was found, but according to those who found him, he was still able to walk with a limp.</p> <p>“My brother told us that when he dislocated his ankle on the fourth day, he started fearing for his life,” Horacio Acosta told Bolivia’s Página Siete newspaper.</p> <p>“He only had one cartridge in his shotgun and couldn’t walk, and he thought no one would be looking for him anymore.”</p> <p>As for his encounters with wild animals in the jungle, including a jaguar, his younger brother said that his brother used his last cartridge to scare off a squadron of peccaries.</p> <p>After 31 days, Acosta spotted the search party about 300m away and limped through thorny bushes, shouting to draw attention to him.</p> <p>Acosta’s brother, Haracio, said that he was found by four local people.</p> <p>“A man came running to tell us they’d found my brother,” he said. “It’s a miracle.”</p> <p>Acosta has since decided to give up hunting for good.</p> <p>“He is going to play music to praise God,” Haracio said. “He promised God that, and I think he will keep his promise.”</p> <p><em>Image credit: BBC News</em></p>

Outspoken transgender activist buys Miss Universe pageant for $31 million

<p dir="ltr">A Thai business tycoon, celebrity, and transgender activist has purchased the Miss Universe Organisation for a hefty $31 million ($NZD 34 million,) according to an announcement made by her company.</p> <p dir="ltr">Chakrapong ‘Anne’ Chakrajutathib, who has starred in reality shows and spoken out about being a transgender woman, controls JKN Global Group Public Co Ltd, which acquired the rights to the beauty pageant - which is broadcast to 165 countries - from IMG Worldwide LLC, a sports, talent and events marketing company.</p> <p dir="ltr">IMG has held the rights to the Miss Universe pageant since 2015, with former President Donald Trump partially owning it for 19 years until IMG’s purchase.</p> <p dir="ltr">To own the Miss Universe Organisation, JKN said it established a US subsidiary called JKN Metaverse Inc.</p> <p dir="ltr">In a statement, Ms Chakrapong said the purchase was a “strong, strategic addition to our portfolio”, which includes content distribution, beverages, food supplements, beauty and consumer products.</p> <p dir="ltr">JKN said the addition of the Miss Universe Organisation would see them use the name to promote its consumer products.</p> <p dir="ltr">A profile in the <em>Bangkok Post</em> on Ms Chakrapong, who founded the non-profit group Life Inspired for Transsexual Foundation to promote trans rights, said she was harassed for identifying as female while studying at an all-male school.</p> <p dir="ltr">When she saw financial success, Ms Chakrapong spent $1.5 million on sex reassignment surgery and other procedures, according to the outlet.</p> <p dir="ltr">While Thailand has a positive reputation when it comes to the rights and lifestyles of LGBTQ+ communities, a report from the Human Rights Watch found that transgender people in Thailand had limited access to services and are exposed to daily indignities.</p> <p dir="ltr">The report came to this conclusion due to the an absence of procedure for transgender people to legally change their gender, as well as insufficient legal protections and social stigma that trans people experience.</p> <p dir="ltr"><em>Image: Getty Images</em></p>

Is just 4.5 kg of weight loss really going to help stop type 2 diabetes?

<p>A new study has found that losing just 4.5 kg of weight could be the difference between getting type 2 diabetes and not.</p> <p>That’s the headline on some of the publicity surrounding the research, except like all these studies, it’s significantly more complicated than that. So, let’s talk about it.</p> <p>The study looked at around 100,000 nurses and other health professionals from a few different US cohort studies that started in the late 1980s.</p> <p>The team looked at up to 10 years of weight changes and tracked the participants for 24 years to see if they developed type 2 diabetes.</p> <p>They also looked at the way that those who lost more than 4.5 kg, dieted. They split them into seven categories – low-calorie diet; exercise; low-calorie diet plus exercise; fasting; commercial weight loss program; diet pills; and a combination of fasting, commercial and diet pills.</p> <p>When the team looked at the original results, they found something surprising: In the overall population, those who lost more than 4.5 kilograms had a higher risk of being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes than those that didn’t diet or try and lose weight.</p> <p>This was particularly striking for those that lost the weight due to limiting calories, diet pills, fasting, or weight loss programs.</p> <p>The researchers then split the data into BMI categories – those who were ‘normal’ weight or underweight, those who were overweight and those who were obese.</p> <p>The findings of a higher risk of type 2 diabetes after trying to lose weight broadly held in both the ‘underweight’ and ‘normal’ as well as the ‘overweight’ categories.</p> <p>“We were a bit surprised when we first saw the positive associations of weight loss attempts with faster weight gain and higher type 2 diabetes risk among lean individuals,” says Qi Sun, a nutrition researcher at the TH Chan Harvard School of Public Health.</p> <p>As you can see in this figure below, the risk of type 2 diabetes only reduced a little – significantly less than the increased risk of type 2 diabetes if you lost over 4.5 kilograms while at a normal BMI.</p> <p><img src="https://oversixtydev.blob.core.windows.net/media/2022/10/figures.jpg" alt="" width="1280" height="720" /></p> <p>As noted in the paper, the vast majority of people try and diet at some point or another – in 2013 to 2016 almost half of US adults reported trying to lose weight.</p> <p>But almost everyone either doesn’t succeed or puts all the weight back on, normally within a few months.</p> <p>This study backs that up. After 10 years, those who tried to lose weight (known as the weight loss strategies group) gained more weight than those that hadn’t.</p> <p>“Participants who lost 4.5+ kg were likely to gain more weight and have higher risk of type 2 diabetes than those who did not attempt to lose weight,” the team writes in their paper.</p> <p>“By 10 years of follow-up, all weight loss strategy groups were associated with more weight gain than the reference group (ranging from 1.7% for exercise to 6.6% for fasting, commercial weight loss program and pills).”</p> <p>It’s important to note here that exercise and eating well is not bad for you. Exercise has been shown time and time again to help us live longer, and eating more fruits and vegetables and less processed food is better for us.</p> <p>However, this study is a good reminder that just losing weight – particularly in ways like weight loss pills, calorie restriction and weight loss programs are not a silver bullet for keeping us healthy.</p> <p>In fact, depending on who you are, it seems it might make it worse.</p> <p>The conclusion from the study is worth reading in full:</p> <p>In conclusion, in individuals with obesity, losing 4.5+ kg of body weight intentionally was associated with less weight gain and lower T2D risk, regardless of the methods used to achieve the weight loss. However, for individuals who were lean, losing 4.5+ kg was not associated with these health benefits. Of all WLSs, exercise was optimal for long-term weight control and T2D prevention. Nick Cave’s son has passed away at 31

<p dir="ltr">Australian rocker Nick Cave has confirmed that his eldest son, Jethro Lazenby, has passed away at 31 years old.</p> <p dir="ltr">In a statement with multiple media outlets in the early hours on Tuesday morning, Cave asked for privacy for the family in the wake of the tragic news.</p> <p dir="ltr">“With much sadness, I can confirm that my son, Jethro, has passed away,” Cave wrote. “We would be grateful for family privacy at this time.”</p> <p dir="ltr">Jethro’s cause of death hasn’t been confirmed.</p> <p dir="ltr">Born in 1991 to Melbourne-based model Beau Lazenby, Jethro reportedly didn’t meet his father until he was seven and spent his early years in Australia, per <em><a href="https://celebrity.nine.com.au/latest/jethro-lazenby-dead-nick-cave-confirms-death-of-model-son-jethro-lazenby/d1885777-5976-461d-ba5e-82f16b26357f" target="_blank" rel="noopener">9Honey</a></em>.</p> <p dir="ltr">After moving to the United Kingdom, Jethro began a career in modelling.</p> <p dir="ltr">“It was difficult at the time, but it turned out great in the end,” Cave told <em><a href="https://www.theguardian.com/music/2008/feb/23/popandrock.features" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Guardian</a></em> of their relationship in 2018.</p> <p dir="ltr">“To my eternal regret I didn’t make much contact with Jethro in the early years. I now have a great relationship with him.”</p> <p dir="ltr">Jethro’s death comes just two days after he was reportedly released from jail after pleading guilty to one count of unlawful assault against his mother, and was due to return to court this month for sentencing.</p> <p dir="ltr">It is also the second time Cave and Lazenby have lost one of their children to an early death, after their son, Arthur, suffered a fatal brain injury in 2015 after falling off a cliff near the family’s Brighton home in the UK.</p> <p dir="ltr">Arthur, 15, was found unconscious by passersby who attempted CPR. Princess Maria of Austria dead at just 31

<div class="post_body_wrapper"> <div class="post_body"> <div class="body_text "> <p>Princess Maria Galitzine has died suddenly from heart failure and leaves behind her husband and two-year-old son.</p> <p>The 31-year-old, who’s a descendant of Emperor Karl of Austria, was living with her husband in Houston, Texas when she passed away.</p> <p>She had a fatal cardiac aneurysm on May 4th, just six days before her 32nd birthday.</p> <p>The news of her passing was confirmed in the<span> </span><em>Houston Chronicle</em>.</p> <p>“Our Maria passed away in the Houston morning of Monday, May 4, 2020, from a sudden cardiac aneurysm,” the obituary read.</p> <p>“She was born in 1988 to Prince and Princess Piotr Galitzine in the city of Luxembourg, Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.” Maria was the daughter of Prince Piotr Galitzine, a Russian aristocrat and Archduchess Maria Anna of Austria, who’s the daughter of the Archduke Rudolf of Austria.</p> <p>Her father was the youngest son of Emperor Karl I of Austria and Empress Zita of Bourbon-Parma, and the couple were the last Emperor and Empress of Austria. They were exiled after World War I.</p> <p>Maria lived in Russia with her family, where she went to the German School of Moscow until she graduated.</p> <p>She went to live and work in Brussels, Chicago and Houston after she attended the College of Art and Design in Belgium.</p> <p>She spoke to<span> </span><em>The Houston Chronicle<span> </span></em>in February 2018, explaining that her parents never publicised their royal status.</p> <p>“My life is completely normal unless we are invited to royal weddings. Man inspired by ill mother loses 31kg – now looks like a "Disney prince"

<p>A man from the US has lost an inspiring 31kg and is now compared to a Disney prince.</p> <p>Jeffrey Kendall, 26, lost the weight while caring for his mother, who suffered a brain aneurysm in 2015.</p> <p>"She was in a coma and rehab hospitals for seven months until they deemed she had plateaued and was to be released since insurance would no longer cover her," Jeffrey told <em>Love What Matters.</em></p> <p>After she was released, Jeffrey moved in with his mum to look after her.</p> <p>"I had seen her in the hospitals where she could barely speak, I had seen her in the ICU where she couldn't," he said.</p> <p>"I had seen her on the floor unable to wake up. To see her stare without the longing of a mother was heartwrenching.</p> <p>"It put a world of self-pity and pain in perspective to me."</p> <p>Motivated by the strength his mother had shown, Jeffrey made a  commitment to take better care of himself.</p> <p style="text-align: center;"><img width="500" height="285" src="https://oversixtydev.blob.core.windows.net/media/7817330/1_500x285.jpg" alt="1 (113)"/></p> <p>As the weight began to drop, his friends encouraged him and discovered that he was beginning to resemble a Disney prince.</p> <p>On Reddit, Jeffrey shared, “I was an overweight youth, I was bullied growing up. I've lived my life with body-image and confidence issues."</p> <p>His transformation began with Jeffrey and his friend doing light weights and push-ups everyday.</p> <p>"Soon I was waking up and going for walks while listening to uplifting music,” he explained.</p> <p>Jeffrey explained that once his fitness journey started, he found himself setting new goals. He soon found himself jogging, sprinting and losing weight.</p> <p>Now, he has started an Instagram page where he enjoys posing as Disney princes and gets asked for his haircare tips.</p> <p>Jeffrey continues to look to his mother for support and motivation.</p> <p>"She's the toughest person I know and gives me a constant appreciation for life,” he said.</p>
